Finland

November 27, 2014

Eeva sent this beautiful card from a nice small town in Finland.  She writes that she likes art, nature, drawing, reading, cheese, coffee and meeting her friends.  She loves cats and that is why she has two of them.  She calls them her "little lions."

She writes that on the card we can see the brilliant colours of fall folliage.  She closes with her best wishes.

Another interesting stamp.  I love the panorama feel of this one, but it's a little faded looking.  I wonder if that is intentional?

Thanks Eeva!

This is a very interesting stamp.  I have no idea what kind of plant this is! Readers?
Thanks Petra.

She says it was an amazing experience.   In the future she hopes to visit Australia.  She bids me be happy and to have a nice day!

Belarus - Recipe

November 21, 2014

Olga wrote me a lovely little note on the back of this yummy card.  She said she is 21 years old and a student.  Her hobbies include playing the guitar, reading and sports.    She hopes I'll like this card and wishes me good luck and happy Postcrossing.

The recipe sounds like real comfort food.  Bacon and potatoes and onions.  Yum.

This stamp is a new one for me.  I like it a lot!

New Zealand

November 21, 2014

Fie sent this beautiful card all the way from New Zealand.  She's another person who is a long way from home.

She writes, " Woaw, living in Japan, that's awesome.  I'm a Danish girl currently living in New Zealand.  I'm a dairy farmer, so it's up early every morning but I love watching the sun rise from behind the mountains :-D   Take care XX Fie"

NZ Series II: 1 of 4.  The four passenger De Havilland Fox Moth was used extensively by Air Travel (NZ) LTD.  This pioneering airline played an important part in servicing isolated areas of the West Coast of New Zealand in the 30's and early 40's

A Christmas stamp!  I also like seeing the airmail stickers.  I haven't seen any from Japan. I don't know if they use them here.

United States

November 21, 2014

Joy wrote a lovely little letter to me on the back of her card.  She said, "My name is Joy, originally from Taiwan.  Live in [place] with my husband Max after we got married.  How interesting, we both move far away because of marriage.  I enjoy my new life here so much.  Max is a Navy diver, so I collect stuff relate to Navy.  Hope you like the postcard & wish you all the best!"

Lovely stamps!  The circus stamps are excellent, aren't they?  I was very happy to get these on the back of my card.

Thanks a lot Joy!

Russia - Movie Cards

November 19, 2014

Elena from Russia sent these cool cards in an envelope, but didn't include a note or write anything personal.  As much as I like the cards, I'd rather have a personalized message.

She did put some amazing and cool stamps on the envelope though.

Interstellar
This was amazing on the front of the envelope.
A cute group of snowmen, plus a couple of other stamps.

Russia - Black and White - Actor

November 19, 2014

Oxana sent this cool card of actor Gérard Depardieu to me from Russia.  She writes,
" This card I chose for you :-) It's Gérard Depardieu, you know him for sure -  he is from France, but became Russian because of light taxes.  And this card is from Italian restaurant...Russia ➔ Italia ➔ France :-) Best Wishes!

Gérard Depardieu

These are some interesting stamps.  Anyone know anything about them?

Russia

November 19, 2014

The message on the back of this card is short but sweet.

Dear friend,
My name is Vladimir.  I hope you'll like my postcard.

Happy Postcrossing
best regards
V.

I'm guessing that this card celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first woman in space, but I'd love to hear if I'm correct or not.  Anyone know?  A great stamp.

Germany - Movie Card

November 18, 2014

Karsten sent this classic movie card from Germany.  He writes, " My name is Karsten and I live in a small village with 1000 inhabitants in northern Germany.  I hope you'll like this movie poster card.

Best wishes from Germany to Japan,

Karsten"

This film has become a holiday classic, and it's been too long since I've seen it.

Look at this cool stamp in the corner.  It looks a little like the Pixar snowman.  It's sweet.  Sadly, the cancellation stamp covers quite a lot of it.

France - Food

November 18, 2014

Astrid sent this yummy looking card from France.  She writes," Bonjour! Hello!

This is a typical dish from here in the French Alps: basically hot melted cheese and white wine in which you dip pieces of bread.  Delicious in winter!

Love from France, Astrid"

I wouldn't mind some fondue right about now!

He tells me that this postcard was issued this year by The National Museum in Krakow on the occasion of the exhibition devoted to Stanley Kubrick.

Stanley Kubrick during filming of "Lolita" (GB/USA, 1962)
He continues in writing about the stamps on the postcard, "They belong to the series called Roses in Polish Folk Embroidery."

He closes with his best wishes to me and my husband.

Really gorgeous stamps!

Italy

November 15, 2014

Agostino sent this great card from Italy with a nice note on the back.  He writes," How are you? My name is Agostino and I live in a city close to the sea north of Rome.  My hobbies are reading, parasailing (I think, his handwriting wasn't clear), cycling, collecting stamps and travelling.  Happy Postcrossing!"

The Roman Forum
I like this view of the Colosseum in Rome...it's nice to see it in context with other buildings.

Look at this lovely old stamp.  If the dates are to be believed, this is a very cool one to get!

Netherlands

November 15, 2014

Monique sent this card from the Netherlands.  She writes that she is a great book lover.  She loves to spend her free time in libraries, surrounded by books.  She sends her greetings.

There was a Europa stamp for 2014 on her card.  The cancellation stamp has sadly covered most of it so it is a tad hard to read.  I like the stamp though.

Netherlands

November 15, 2014

Kirsten writes that her favourite movies are "The Fountain", "The Lord of the Rings", and "Where Dreams May Come".  She is also a Star Trek fan, so likes those movies.  She lives in a town in The Netherlands.

I love the Muppets.  I've always looked up to Miss Piggy...she's a woman/pig who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go out and get it!

U.S.A. Black & White

November 15, 2014

Nancy sent me a card and said that she lives in the US, in Florida.  She writes that she loves this card with the young Stevie Wonder and Muhammad Ali.  She would love to know the story behind this photo.  Why were they together and what were they doing? She says that it looks like they might be trying to sing together.  Whatever, it is a remarkable photo.  She hopes I like it.
