Spring 2015

Japan Post has released another beautiful Gotochi Card for spring.  I haven't decided if I want to send it or keep it yet.  Of course, I could send it and buy myself another one :-)

Malaysia - New Yorker

February 21, 2015

Rahman sent this card all the way from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  He writes that the day he wrote the card it was hot and very humid, so today he just stays indoors.  He hopes I have a nice day.

Cover by Charles Saxon, March 6, 1971
An interesting golf related stamp!

Thanks Rahman!

China - Audrey Hepburn

February 19, 2015

Sutey sent me this great card from China.  She writes that she is a high-school student and her favourite types of films are science-fiction and detective films.  She asks about mine...honestly, I like those types of films and a whole lot more!

She said that on the front of the card is Audrey Hepburn who is her goddess.  She hopes I like this card.  She finishes by wishing me happy postcrossing!

Audrey Hepburn
These are lovely stamps.  The red one I have had numerous times before, but the vase/jug one is quite new to me.

Thank you Sutey!

Russia

February 18, 2015

Alex wrote that he is from Moscow.  The card he sent is from a Russian designer. He wishes that I am happy, healthy and never be sad.  He sends the great Hello to Japan from Russia. He signed off with his best regards.

I really like this design, it reminds me of some rubber stamps that I have.

United States of America

February 17, 2015

Wendy wrote a short message on her card.  She said, "Hi my name is Wendy.  I live in Gig Harbor, Washington USA.  I love quotes.

"So often we become so focused on the finish line that we fail to enjoy the journey." --Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Happy Postcrossing Wendy"

The poor card had quite a journey to me.  There were stains all over the back of the card and some of the surface had ripped as well.  However, it did find me!

Ukraine

Kate sent this card from the Ukraine.  She writes that she's from Kyiv, Ukraine.  She hopes that I'll like this postcard with one of the most famous sights of her city =-)  She closes by wishing me a Happy Postcrossing.
National Sanctuary/Sophia....(under the stamp)

These are some gorgeous stamps.  So bright and colourful too!

Russia - German Card

February 16, 2015

Masha writes that this is a picture postcard of the city of Dresden, Germany.  She was there recently.  She likes it very much, but the city of Dresden is cold.   About herself, Masha writes that she is 18 years old and lives in the city of Samara, Russia.  She's studying to be a primary school teacher.  She loves poetry, classical music and tea.  She hopes I enjoy this card.  She signs off with her love and a note about the weather.  It was cloudy and -3℃.

Dresden, Neumarkt & the Dresden Frauenkirche
Amazing stamps!  They are quite big and take up a lot of room on the card.  I love them! They would be perfect on the wall of a doll's house!

Russia - Recipe Card

February 16, 2015

This interesting sounding recipe from Russia came from Anastasiya.  She sends greetings from Russia.  She writes that she is 22 and lives in Kira.  She works at a gas company and studies at a driving school.  She wishes I get a lot of postcards!

She also wrote the temperature -3℃ and snowy.  Thanks!

I've had dill pickle soup in Canada and just loved it.  I'm not sure if this is a similar thing or not.

These are fairly common stamps, but it is nice to see this grouping of them.

Lithuania - Book

February 16, 2015

Sigita wrote,"Hello! Many warm greetings from Lithuania!  Nice to meet you in this project!  The last movie I have seen: White Bird in a Blizzard.  I like this movie.  Take care, Sigita."

What a really beautiful stamp.  I am so glad that Sigita didn't take off the frames of the stamp, it is so much more interesting with them all around.

Netherlands - Handicrafts

February 14, 2015

Ingrid sends her greetings from the Netherlands.  She writes that she lives in Amsterdam.  She loves postcrossing, reading, watching old movies and wreck this Journal.  She is looking forward to spring because she needs some sun!

Cute crocheted insects!
Strangely enough, I had to remove the scan of this card from Postcrossing because the sender had posted the wrong scan for my card!  I've never had that happen before!

France - Recipe

February 14, 2015

Giulia sent this great recipe card to me.  It has rather a sad history though.  It is the second card that she sent.  About a month ago, Giulia messaged me to see if her first card had arrived.  It hadn't.  I always register my cards on the day that I receive them, so I knew I hadn't got it.  She very nicely offered to send a second card.  I told her she didn't have to, but she did.  And, here it is!

She translated the recipe on the back into English, and then wrote a small message that said, "There's my 2nd card.  I hope you'll receive & enjoy it.  Best wishes,  Giulia"

Cauliflower Cake
This is a really beautiful stamp.  I'm quite impressed by it!

Germany - Art

February 13, 2015

Jutta sent her greetings from Germany and also Happy Birthday wishes to me!  She likes the small things in life.  She loves when people share their life with her and tell her something that matters.  She thinks her hobbies are her family, reading books, collecting stamps, a long walk.  She closes by wishing me the best and a beautiful birthday.

Alexander Mann (1853-1908) Portrait of Helen Gow

These stamps are quite interesting.

Thanks Jutta!

Netherlands

February 12, 2015

Wendy sent me a great card that speaks for itself as to why she sent this one!  She wrote on the back,
Hi, nice to meet you here.  I chose to send you a postcard for your birthday and I hope it'll arrive about the 5th of February :-)  I want to wish you a happy birthday and hope you'll have a nice day!

Groetjes(best wishes) Wendy"

She added on a PS..."I like Bridget Jones and the shopaholic-series;-)"

Unfortunately the card was a little bit late, there was a mistake in the postal code, so it might have gone to the wrong town first.

I really like the stamp with the clogs on it!

Thank you Wendy!

Germany - Books

February 12, 2015

Tatjana wrote that she lives in the beautiful town of Bremen with her husband and 11 year old son.  She's a physiotherapist and likes her job.  She also hopes that I like this postcard. She wishes me a Happy Postcrossing to close.

There are so many cool things to find and see in the picture, and that's not even looking at the books.

Thanks Tatjana!

Finland - Movie

February 10, 2015

Rietta sent this card from Finland to me.  She had a short and sweet message on her card, "Hello!  My name is Rietta and I live in Finland.  I'm already waiting for the spring.  Happy Postcrossing!"

I saw The Piano years ago.  It was a very interesting movie, not one that I am in a hurry to watch again.

The stamp is rather lovely.  I'm not sure if I've had it before or not.

Turkey

February 10, 2015

Altu sent this card on behalf of his son.  He writes, "Merhabai (Hi)!  I'm Altu from sunny Mersin.  This is my second account for my little son "DENIZ".  He is ony 11 months old and his name means "SEA".  I hope you like this card and stamp :)

Have a nice day.

This is a great stamp.  It is also huge!  It really covers half of the postcard, and this postcard is slightly larger than average.

Japan - Gotochi Card

February 10, 2015

Natsuko sent this great Gotochi card from Kanagawa to me.  She wrote a lovely message on the back of her card.  She said, "Hello!  I am from Japan and live in the city of Kanagawa.  There are U.S. army bases and a U.S. navy base near my house.  Hope you like this card.  Have a great day!

Tokyo Train Station, near the Rotunda
Rather coincidentally, I have been in the Tokyo Train Station.  I was in Tokyo on February 10, 2014, exactly a year before this card arrived and met some friends in the station.  How cool is that?

Natsuko used some gorgeous stamps on the back of the card.  They are all a little bit older than the ones I usually use.  I believe the 62 yen stamp is the building on the card.
Thanks Natsuko!

Iceland

February 10, 2015

I received this card and I was quite excited at first because it is from a new country for me, Iceland.  However, I believe it is a self-printed card that the sender sends out to many people.  It's a little disappointing, but I do appreciate the stamp.

The sender printed a very generic message on the back...printed by computer, not even by hand.  Le sigh.

He said, "Hi my name is Stefan and I live in Reykjavik the capital of Iceland."  That's it.

I have no idea what the pictures show, except for the very obvious one on the top row!

Very interesting stamp.  I'd love to know what it represents!

China - Food

February 7, 2015

This card came from Mickey from China.  She writes that it isn't very far from Japan.  She lives in Beijing and asks if I know it.  She says it is a very big city in China.  It has lots of famous food.  Some of the food is too hard too say in English, so she'll try to make me understand it.  The card will show me a kind of famous food in Beijing which is named "the Doornail Pancake." Ha ha...It just means that the Pancake is like a nail.  How big?  Just like the Doornail.  It's usually on the city gate.  The colour is gold.  The pancake is very delicious and she hopes I have a a chance to try it.  She sends her best wishes and dated the card Jan. 27th, 2015.

She also wrote on the back at the top, BTW:  It's almost your birthday next week.  So...Happy Birthday to you!  :-)

Quite a nice example of a stamp.  It seems to have missed being cancelled completely, although there is a stamp mark on the back of the card.

Thanks Mickey!

Russia

February 6, 2015

This lovely and sort of Harry Potterish card came to me from Russia.  I love the owls and the furniture, and the fact that it looks very much like it should belong to me!  I'd love to have a cup of tea near this.

The sender only wrote her name on the back, but she did draw me quite a cool picture on the back.  I have the feeling that she is very young!  I'm guessing that the bottom picture is a birthday cake, but she doesn't have enough candles on it for me!

Thank you Lisa!
