Spain - Mallorca

July 8, 2026

This card arrived from Lisa. She said she's from Germany but was on vacation in Mallorca. She visited a city with her family as a child and then showed her boyfriend around yesterday. She sent her best regards.

These are the stamps that Lisa used on the card. I like them!

Books - USA

This card arrived recently from the US. Liz wrote that she lives in Florida and travelled to Japan a few years ago.

Generic Books, but definitely something I like!

She put some cool stamps on the back of the postcard. I rather like them.

Thanks Liz!

Netherlands - Books

 June 12, 2020

This card came from the Netherlands from Mattias.  I grew up reading Puffin Books, so even though I didn't read this particular one, this was a fun card to receive. He wrote an interesting note if a bit scattered in topics!

He said,

Hoi Helen! I 🧡 books! From childhood. So it was no surprise that I studied for librarian. I worked for 2 decades in a library and was truck driver on a library on wheels. Fun to go to "remote" and little villages. I still enjoy books and read novels and biography most. And discovered Marie Kondo some time ago! Her books are helpful to me. Now I read from Erica FATLAND=the Frontier; a travel through all Russian neighbour countries. It's 700+ pages.

Happy Day.    Mattias

I think that this may have been a Christmas stamp leftover, but I'm not sure!

United States of America - Black & White

March 5, 2020

Diane sent this card to me with a nice note on the back and wrote about her favourite films. That's a subject that I always enjoy, so this was a good card for me!

Diane wrote;

"Hi Helen,

Happy Birthday Month!

Walt Disney is a famous writer of sorts & Mickey surely is a famous actor!

I loved Mama Mia, Les Miserables, Bohemian Rhapsody & Judy, I really love musical & romantic movies.

Blessings, Diane"

Belarus - Food

January 31, 2020

Lenore sent this from Belarus with a lovely stamp and a short but cheerful message!

She said,

"Hello, my dear friend!

My name's Lenore and I'm from Belarus. I want to wish you all the best in this wonderful year!"

A late Christmas greeting.  Lovely any time of year!

The stamp was put on upside down, but is so lovely that I had to show it the "right" way up!

United States - Art/Books

March 14, 2019

This beautiful card came from Diane in New York State.  She wrote a very inquisitive note on the back of the card, which didn't strike me as being friendly.  Perhaps I'm wrong.

She wrote,

Hello Helen-my name is Diane. I live just north of Syracuse, N.Y. My first thought after reading your bio was - do you go home to Canada regulary? Do you miss where you grew up? Has your family come to Japan. And lastly - why have you not made the effort to learn the language with living there so long? I live with my husband of 341/2 years and our dog & cat. Our son (30) and daughter (26) are both married & live in Buffalo, N.Y. It's winter here. We average 125 inches of snow each year & are well on our way to that Mark and perhaps more!

France

December 27, 2018

This pretty card came from Stephanie in France. She wrote a nice note and decorated the back of the card with stickers, so it was a nice piece of mail to receive in my mailbox.

She wrote,

Hello Helen!

I'm Stephanie from France. I live in a small city near the sea with my 2 children Keva 10, Nicoles 8) and my husband Thierry. I love swimming, sailing, walking on the beach, cooking and reading. I like Harry Potter film.

Happy Postcrossing!

The stamp below celebrates a short film festival, so it was a great choice for me!

United States of America - Book/Tea

December 25, 2018 (Yes, there is mail delivery on December 25 in Japan as it isn't a national holiday here.)

The note on the back of the card was short and didn't have a lot to say.  The person did list a few of their favourite movies though, so they get brownie points for that.

I really like the card however. It's very literary and it mentions tea and Peter Pan!

The person wrote;

Greetings from Olympia, WA!

My favorite films include Little Shop of Horrors, Kiss Me Kate, The Jerk, & Marat/Sade. [They wrote a line and a half and then scribbled over it so I can't read it.]

Happy Postcrossing!

Would you like an adventure now, or would you like to have your tea first?

Taiwan

April 6, 2018

This lovely card from Taiwan was sent by Pei. She wrote a short note and used a gorgeous stamp on her card.

She said,

Hi Helen,

I am Pei Han from Tainan, Taiwan.  I like to travel and special places of different countries. This shows Lungshan Temple in Taipei. :-)

Pei Han 31. 03. 2018

On the back it says," May the Gods hear my prayers, may the Gods bless all.
(Lungshan temple, Taipei.)

This is the gorgeous stamp that Pei used on the card.  It's really interesting I think!

July 14, 2017

This card came to me from the US.  The sender, Krissy used great stamps and even wrote a nice note on the back.  Hurray for that.

She said,

Hello Helen!

Wow I bet that is quite a different life there.  I always wanted to live in another country even just for a little while.  I have a friend who lived there for 5 years as a teacher.  It sounds like quite an adventure.

Cheers, Krissy

The stamps are very interesting too.  It is a shame the heart one was so marked with the cancellation stamp.

Russia - Writer

December 5, 2016

This card, with a friendly note on the back, came to me from Russia. I always enjoy reading what people write on cards, so if you are going to send me a card, write a lot please!

Oleg wrote,
"Hello Helen!
My name is Oleg and I live in Kaliningrad City on the Baltic Sea Coast.  I have chosen this card by your wish list.  On the card you may see the great Russian writer L. Tolstoy(1828-1910).  The most known his novel 'War and Peace'.
Best wishes and Happy New Year!
Oleg"

I have never read Tolstoy.  Maybe I will one day.

These stamps are rather interesting.. horses and Christmas.  Lovely!
