USA - Crafting

 Sewing

I received this card back in May and then didn't receive any cards for a while! I had a bunch of cards travelling and some of them didn't arrive. It happens, sad to say.

The sender didn't write her name on the card, just said that she was originally from Russia and she came to the US recently and got married.  She likes books and movies about Harry Potter.

Books - USA

This card arrived recently from the US. Liz wrote that she lives in Florida and travelled to Japan a few years ago.

Generic Books, but definitely something I like!

She put some cool stamps on the back of the postcard. I rather like them.

Thanks Liz!

United States of America - Book Related

Received April 21, 2026

Alison sent this card with its picture of Herman Melville's chimney/fireplace.  The blurb on the back of the card says that Melville wrote some of his novels here, including Moby Dick.

I love books, but to be honest, I loathed Moby Dick! I think I skipped a lot of the book as I just couldn't get into it. I had to read it at college.

Thanks Alison!

Europe and the United States

February 24, 2026

I received these three cards recently and am posting them so you can see them!

From Germany, this cute little food /chocolate card was sent by Anja. She told me that the card's writing means,"The secret ingredient is Love."

This black and white card from the US came from Matt. He didn't write a personalized message on the back of the card and instead pasted a message about Chicago having 2,716,450 residents.

This Map card from Austria arrived today. Silvia writes about her family and her garden. She also raises chickens for the eggs as they are expensive.

Three nice cards, which I enjoyed receiving.

Books and Author

 February 11 & 12, 2026

Sara from Belgium asked about nature in Japan versus Canada...no one usually asks about that! I think this is a vintage UNICEF postcard.

Opening a book --discover a world.

Rebecca sent this card featuring Muriel Spark and wrote about novels and films, my favourite subjects. She also mentioned that she has a Book Podcast called Canada Reads American Style. Check it out if you are interested!  I listened in tonight and it was very interesting.

I loved Mama Mia, Les Miserables, Bohemian Rhapsody & Judy, I really love musical & romantic movies.

Blessings, Diane"

United States - Art Card

July 5, 2019

Yufang sent this card to me from the US. She used great stamps on the back and wrote a chatty note about herself and movies that she loves on the back.  I love this kind of card!

She wrote;

Hello Helen!
Greetings from New York City (Brooklyn). USA!

My name is Yufang, came from Taiwan 16 years ago. I love to read, play piano, and collect stamps. My favorite movies are "Scent of a Woman", "Amelie", and lots of good action movies.  I definitely love Daniel Craig's Bond movies! He actually lives about 10-minute walk from my house! :-) Hope all is well! Yufang

PS. You live in my dream country!

Renee sent this card to me from the US.  She wrote a friendly note on the back of the card and told me about herself, so it was a nice card to receive.

Renee wrote,

Hello Helen, I lived in Japan (Yakota AFIB) when I was a child in the 70's. I think it has changed very much. I am a professor in S.C. now, but I went to school in Boulder, Co--hence the postcard. We are enjoying summer here-swimming & gardening. I remember Summerland Amusement Park in Japan!

United States - Movie Card

April 26, 2019

Leisa sent this cool movie card to me from Texas in the US.  She typed a nice note on the back, with an explanation for the typing, so it was a great card to receive.

Leisa typed;

Howdy,

That's a Texas style hello! My name is Leisa and I live in a small town in this big state. I'm a retired nurse who loves to watch movies. I love "Inn of Sixth Happiness" but you just got to love "Tremors" too!  Sorry for the typed message, I've injured my hand. I always check favorite lists to see if I have a card that might be there. I had this "Hobbit" card that's the same style you have on favorite just a different character. I got it online but didn't know about the strange backs. Can't figure out what language this is but think the style is cool! Hope you like the card.

I do like the card very much and I think the language on the front is Elvish. It has a great couple of stamps too.

The Hobbit, well one of the movies anyway.

Great Sally Ride stamp, and I like the Love stamp as well.

United States - Art/Books

March 14, 2019

This beautiful card came from Diane in New York State.  She wrote a very inquisitive note on the back of the card, which didn't strike me as being friendly.  Perhaps I'm wrong.

She wrote,

Hello Helen-my name is Diane. I live just north of Syracuse, N.Y. My first thought after reading your bio was - do you go home to Canada regulary? Do you miss where you grew up? Has your family come to Japan. And lastly - why have you not made the effort to learn the language with living there so long? I live with my husband of 341/2 years and our dog & cat. Our son (30) and daughter (26) are both married & live in Buffalo, N.Y. It's winter here. We average 125 inches of snow each year & are well on our way to that Mark and perhaps more!

United States of America - Book/Tea

December 25, 2018 (Yes, there is mail delivery on December 25 in Japan as it isn't a national holiday here.)

The note on the back of the card was short and didn't have a lot to say.  The person did list a few of their favourite movies though, so they get brownie points for that.

I really like the card however. It's very literary and it mentions tea and Peter Pan!

The person wrote;

Greetings from Olympia, WA!

My favorite films include Little Shop of Horrors, Kiss Me Kate, The Jerk, & Marat/Sade. [They wrote a line and a half and then scribbled over it so I can't read it.]

Happy Postcrossing!

Would you like an adventure now, or would you like to have your tea first?

United States

November 5, 2018

This fun card came from Linda in the US.  She wrote a lot on the back of her card and used some great stamps so this was a lovely present in my mailbox!

She wrote;

Hello Helen from Milwaukee Wisconsin on Beautiful Lake Michigan. Fall here, lots of pumkins everywhere as it gets closer to Halloween, people dress up in costumes & scare others ~LOVE this time of year ~ fresh apples picked from the trees dipped in caramel and rolled in nuts, "Yummy".

We are waiting for our second grandson this December.

Peace & Joy ~ Linda USA

Linda used some amazing stamps on her card as well.

Thanks Linda!  A really cool Postcrossing!

United States

November 2, 2018

This card came from David in the US. He wrote a lovely message on the back of the card and referred me to YouTube to see videos of his Grandmother telling stories. I did have a look at one of them and it was very interesting. She was talented, so I encourage anyone interested to have a listen too.

David wrote;

Hello, Helen!

I hope all is well your way. This is a picture of Sloss Furnaces in my town of Birmingham, Alabama, USA. I like this landmark because it is supposedly haunted by the ghosts of workers who died there.

My Grandmother was a storyteller & wrote several books about ghost stories in the Southern United States. Places like this remind me of her & the fabulous stories & food she would share with me. If you like good stories, you should find her by searching for KATHRYN TUCKER WINDHAM on YouTube. Her stories were more informative than "scary"stories.

Well, Damn! I'm out of space to write.

United States - Black & White Actress

October 10, 2018

This excellent card came to me from the US.  Lisa sent it wth a great message all about movies on the back, so I was thrilled. Also fabulous was the fact that she used movie star stamps on the back.  A double bonus!

She wrote

Hi Helen - sending greetings from Texas. I love Casablanca too & the original Wuthering Heights. Tried to find a card you haven't already received. Hope I succeeded!
One of my all time favorite movies is A Room With a View. I love to art journal--@dagbockblue on Instagram and dream of taking a trip to Japan to buy supplies & check out the traveler's factory Midori[not sure about this word].

Best,
Lisa

Audrey Hepburn

Look at these cooler than cool stamps!  Personally, I love the Shirley Temple one, but the Elvis one is interesting too.
Thanks so much Lisa!!

United States

October 6, 2018

I received this card from Marty in the US.  He wrote a short note on the back and didn't sign the card. I find quite a few people don't sign their cards.  I wonder why!  It makes it hard to send them a friendly thank you note....

He wrote:

Greetings from the USA! I live near Chicago. I am an avid Stamp and Coin collector. Best wishes and Happy Postcrossing!

The card got inked on the way to me.  It's sad, but adds to its character I think!

This amazing card came from Sheri in the US.  I really love it.  Although I am not a huge fan of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, the card is wonderfully symbollic of the story.  I like it very much.

Sheri wrote:

Hi Helen, greetings from Avondale, AZ.  I wonder how Japan is so different from Canada. I've been to Japan once, a long time ago. It is a beautiful country but it is very brave of you to live so far from home!
=) Sheri

These are also quite interesting stamps.  I'm not familiar with them and I haven't received them before.
