Switzerland

December 31, 2014

Ottox put a short and simple message on the back of his card.  He said, "Warm greetings from Lausanne and happy new year".

Le Chateau, la Cathedrale, et le Lac Leman

This stamp is rather interesting!  Have a look at the enlarged version.  It's very Christmassy.

Germany

December 31, 2014

Elena sent me this card and noted the similarities in our names.

She writes that she is working in a job centre.  They offer training and support in training and education issues.  She also works in co-operation with women's shelter too.  She says that this card is social advertising.

She wishes me a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Germany - Black & White Portraits

December 28, 2014

Apologies about the lack of entries over the Christmas/New Years break.  It was a little difficult to find time to scan and upload cards.  I did receive a few lovely cards as you will see over the coming days.

First up today is a lovely portrait of Katharine Hepburn.  Peggy sent it from Germany and wrote that Hepburn is one of her favourite actresses of all time.  She especially loves her movies with Cary Grant.  However, The African Queen is her all-time favourite.  I loved The African Queen too!

Courtney wrote that she sent me the most famous writer she could find.  Courtney says that she is an expat like me who is living in a new country because of her husband.  She has lived in Germany for a few months and it is great.

She writes that her favourite film is The Conversation, an old movie from the 1970s.  She continues that in addition to science and philosophy, Einstein wrote poetry and was a prolific letter-writer. She joked that it is too bad he was too early for Postcrossing!

I think I have had this stamp before, but this one is quite a good example of it.

Thank you both!

Finland - Santa

December 16, 2014

This card came to me from Finland, but the sender didn't even say "Happy Postcrossing" or "Merry Christmas" or anything.  They signed it, I think.  The sender doesn't have any kind of information in their profile either.  How sad.

The card and the stamp are cute, but I miss not finding out something about the sender.

Belarus

December 13, 2014

This card comes from Belarus and was sent by Natalie.  She writes that she lives in Gomel.  On the picture, the Gomel Regional Drama Theatre is shown.  She says that on the right side of it there is a post office, where she buys cards and marks.

She wishes me a happy postcrossing and notes that the temperature at her home is +4 ℃.

What a beautiful building for a theatre!  I'd love to see a play there or even to perform in one there.

Russia

December 12, 2014

Stanislav sent this card from the second greatest Russian city (his words) called Saint Petersburg.

He writes that on this card we can see a view of Lake Baikal, the deepest lake on the whole planet.  In August he tells me that he kayaked along the shore of Baikal, for more than 270 km.  Wow!!

He wishes me a nice postcrossing.

Belarus - Books

December 6, 2014

Pavel wrote that he's from Belarus.  He asks if I like blackberries.  He sends his best wishes and wishes me a Happy Postcrossing.

I didn't notice the names of the books at first, they are very amusing.  If you look on the bookshelves, most of the books have titles that can be read.

I don't know anything about the person on this stamp.  Readers?

Belarus - Food & Craft

December 4, 2014

Anastasia wrote that she is a university student.  She is addicted to needlework, and drawing and modelling.  It helps her relax and distracts her from permanent and bothering studies!  She wishes me good luck and happy postcrossing!

Another pretty stamp.  Some of the Belarus stamps are gorgeous.  Love the flowers.

United States of America

December 2, 2014

Julie sent this card with Autumn greetings.  She mentions that this card is from the same set as one I have listed in my favourites so she hopes I like it. 😀
She says that she has just returned from a holiday in the mountains.  All the leaves were at their peak color-so amazing!  She really didn't want to come home.  Ha!  She hopes that I am having a wonderful time.  She closes by wishing me all the best.

Cover artist: Mathieu Lauffray

I am so happy to see these "pretty" stamps from the US.  I know they have gorgeous stamps but the usual ones I see are a little bit boring!

Thanks Julie :-)
