Netherlands - Actress in B&W with Book

July 1, 2019

Caroline sent me this great card with an interesting picture of Marilyn Monroe.  I've received many pictures of Marilyn Monroe over the years, but this is one that I haven't seen before.

Caroline wrote;

Hello Helen, here a postcard with an actress(?) on it. (that's Madonna? or Maryline Monroe? However it's a black and white one with someone reading a book! I think it must be rather difficult living in a foreign country and not speaking the language. Do you miss Canada? bye CAROLINE

Marilyn Monroe

Love all these cool stamps! You can even see her question on the side if you look carefully.

Russia

May 7, 2019

Dmitry sent this card to me with a short and friendly note on the back.

He wrote;

Hello, Helen!
My name is Dima or -Dmitry. On the card depicts the Vezhe-Tundra mountain in the Murmansk region in spring.  I wish you excellent spring mood.

Dima  21.04.2019

Dima used some very interesting stamps on the card. I'm not sure if the picture in the corner is an indication of a pre-stamped card or the place where we are supposed to put the stamp!

Russia - Food

November 9, 2018

Katya sent this card to me from Russia. She taped an oak leaf on the back and wrote a friendly note about her city, so obviously, I like this card!

She wrote;

Hello Helen!

Greeting from the city of Tula - the birthplace of samovars and gingerbread! This photo shows soup borsch and it's recipe, we like it.

I hope someday you cook it.

By the way, this is the leaf oak (to the attached leaf)

With best wishes! Katya.

I would like to make this recipe but beets are a little hard to find here. Also, I have a sensitivity to tomatoes so
this would be difficult for me to eat.

The red stamp that Katya used on the back is rather gorgeous. It's a FIFA stamp.

United States

November 5, 2018

This fun card came from Linda in the US.  She wrote a lot on the back of her card and used some great stamps so this was a lovely present in my mailbox!

She wrote;

Hello Helen from Milwaukee Wisconsin on Beautiful Lake Michigan. Fall here, lots of pumkins everywhere as it gets closer to Halloween, people dress up in costumes & scare others ~LOVE this time of year ~ fresh apples picked from the trees dipped in caramel and rolled in nuts, "Yummy".

We are waiting for our second grandson this December.

Peace & Joy ~ Linda USA

Linda used some amazing stamps on her card as well.

Thanks Linda!  A really cool Postcrossing!

Russia - Tea

July 5, 2018

This card came from Katya in Russia.  She has some exciting news on her card too.

She wrote;

Hi Helen! My name is Katya, and I wanted to share with you the good news, on August 31 I'm getting married!

More like serial than movies, but impressed with a film "The Millionaire from Truseb" [Slumdog Millionaire].  Good luck and success in POSTCROSSING :)

I turned the pictures of the stamps 90 degrees because they were sideways on the card.  The sport one is interesting.

Italy - Movie Card

June 19, 2018

I believe it was a short time ago I vowed to post twice a week from now on, but I had a couple of weekend trips recently and I wasn't able to.  Who knows if I'll be able to post regularly or not?  Not me!

I got this card from Michelle in Italy.  I'm sure I've had it before but probably not from Italy!  I don't expect anyone to skim through all 1400 or so of my cards to see if I've received something, just would hope they'd check to see if I received it from their own country.

She wrote a short friendly note and used lovely stamps on the back of the card.

Michelle wrote:

Hi Helen! I'm Michelle, 21 y.o., from Italy. I study Accounting at university of Benq[can't read it],
my hometown.
In my free time I like watch old films and Casablanca its one of this!
I wish you all the best!
Regards

Michelle

Really love the mixture of Italian stamps on the card.  There's sports, wine and a priest who was killed by the Mafia. With the latter, there is a film tie-in as well, as a film was made of his life.

Canada - My Hometown!

June 18, 2018

This fabulous, super, wonderful card came to me from my home province of Alberta in Canada.  The sender very kindly wrote a friendly note and sent a card from my hometown!

Glenn wrote:

Hey Helen,
Hello from Airdrie, the small town just north of Calgary that's grown now to over 65,000. Thought I'd send you a little bit of Edmonton. It's the New Rogers Place. I guess when you com back this way, you'd see big changes in Edmonton. I know Calgary has sure grown in the last 25 years.

Take care 'eh.
Glenn

I really enjoyed getting this card, even though I haven't seen Rogers Place yet.

Rogers Place, located in the Ice District, is a multi-use indoor arena in
Edmonton, Alberta. It is mainly used for ice hockey and other indoor
sports, but is also configurable as a venue for concerts or other events.

Some lovely Canadian stamps on offer too.  Of course, fitting in the hockey theme, there's a hockey stamp, also Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second and some Art (but not a Garfunkle).

Thanks Glenn, I always enjoy receiving cards from Canada, it doesn't happen all that often sad to say.

A Thank You Card

April 19, 2018

Apologies for not blogging for a while.  These days I am not able to send out as many cards and I haven't had time to blog for a while.  I'll try and update a couple of times a week and see how that goes.

I received this interesting Thank You card from a person that I had sent a card to in March.  It was a lovely gesture for him to do this, and not a very common one.

He wrote that he was on a one day trip to Estonia and wishes me a nice spring.  Thank you Marcus!

Silk scarf Crafted by Maire Saijets
The stamp was also a nice one!

China

March 12, 2018

I received this lovely card from Danbo in China. He dashed off a short note and used some gorgeous stamps on the card.  What's not to like about that?

He wrote,
"Ni-hao!  This is the world natural heritage - Guilin scenery of Southwestern China!
Happy Postcrossing!

China

January 31, 2017

This card came from China with a friendly message on the back from Chen Jie.  She also wrote something in kanji that I cannot translate.

She wrote,

"Hi, Helen. I'm Chen jie, a girl from China.  I hope you will like the post card.
Hope you a good day! 😊 "

This card looks like it should be a manga card, but there isn't any information on the back.
It reminds me a bit of Sherlock!

This stamp is from the Beijing Olympics. I think it is quite beautiful in its simplicity.

India

November 1, 2016

I received this beautiful card from India with a great note on the back. The sender talks about his country and himself, which I am always happy to read.  I will take the liberty of not putting the sender's full name on this entry, for his protection.

Dr.  V.B. writes....

"Namaste,
Greetings from India.
India is a very special country.  We have mountains in the north, desert in the west, Forests in the east & beaches in the south.

I am a Paediatrician, love to play with children & would like to travel the world.

Come to India once for an unforgettable experience.
-Dr. V. B."

Desert of Rajasthan

These are great stamps.  Obviously two are sports and two are of Gandhi.

Thank you so much Dr. V. B.

Russia - Food

October 28, 2016

This pretty card came from Russia with a friendly note on the back, but it wasn't signed!  There was no name on it at all.  It was very difficult to send a thank you back to the senders.

They wrote,
"Hello!  We are family from south Russia, Krasnodar. We love gardening, listen to the radio, reading different kind of books and travelling.  We wish you a lot of great cards from all over the world!"

Lemon Cake

I don't know anything about these stamps.  I am guessing the one on the right is sports related, but honestly, I have NO idea.  Readers?

Netherlands - Tea

September 12, 2016

This tiny little card came from Louise in the Netherlands.  She wrote a friendly little note on the back of the card too.

She wrote,
"Dear friend!
Today the greetings come from Nymegen, the Netherlands.  I live here with my husband, two daughters (18 and 23) and our rabbit Hups.  My hobby is painting all kinds of subjects.  Perhaps you can visit my site: www.louisepeeters.com and let me know what you think of it.  I'm curious of it...

I wish you lots of postcards in your mailbox!

Een hele fijne dag!
     'Have a very nice day!'

Lovely greetings, Louise"

The card is very small, about 8.5 cm by 11.5 cm!

I like the bicycle and I also like the way the cancellation mark seems to have warped somehow!

Czech Republic

July 2, 2016

Slávek sent this card from his village in the Czech Republic.  He wrote a friendly note on the back of the card.

He wrote,
"Hi, my name is Slávek and I live in a small village Brniste. I like to read books on II.World War.  I'm 43 years old and I have 2 daughters =).  I wish you a beautiful day and many nice postcards.  Partly cloudy 21℃       Slávek"

A nice sports related stamp!  Thanks :-)

Russia

July 2, 2016

This bright and cheerful card arrived in my mailbox from Russia recently.  It was sent by a 14 year old who does Postcrossing though school.

The postcrosser wrote,
"My name is Alona.  I am 14 years old.  I live in the northern Russian town.  I like Postcrossers club. It's called 'Compot'.  Happy Postcrossers! Best wishes Alona"

The first stamp looks like a variation of the Rapunzel story, but I don't really know.

Malaysia - Food

June 22, 2016

This delicious looking card arrived in June from Malaysia.  There isn't too much written on the back of the card sad to say, but enough that I don't feel depressed about it!

Phoenix wrote, "Hi, Sending you a food related card.  I got this from a supermarket in South Africa.  I went there for business.  Cheers, Phoe"

The recipe for the dish is on the back.  If anyone really wants it let me know and I can either scan it or copy it out for you! Scan would be easier for me!

I like the stamps...the two are golfing related, the other is a kind of plant.
