Taiwan

July 31, 2015

Yvonne wrote a sweet note on the back of her card.  Because some of it is personal, I'll paraphrase what she said, rather than quoting directly.

She wrote that she has to apologize to me because the card wasn't sent for a long time.  There was a family problem and she wasn't able to send it on time.   She goes on to say, "I work in a black tea tourist factory.  Welcome to Taiwan to drink black tea one day.  Happy Postcrossing! :-) Yvonne, 2015"

According to Postcrossing, the card took 331 days to get to me, so Yvonne cut it a little close, but good for her for sending it.  We say, "Better Late than Never", and I think it is definitely true here!

Thanks so much for sending the card Yvonne.

Philippines

July 31, 2015

This is the first card I have received from the Philippines so I was quite happy to get it.   Elle sent it and wrote a pleasant note on the back.

"Hi!  Greetings from the Philippines - the country in Southeast Asia with 7107 islands and with many waterfalls.  It is raining as I write this and I love the rain because it is relaxing for me :-) Wishing you all the best!  Elle"

This fifty-meter wide waterfalls has been dubbed as a "mini Niagara Falls".

This is the first stamp that I have seen from the Philippines, quite cute!

July 28, 2015

She wrote,"Hello!  Greetings from the Netherlands. I hope that you're doing fine, and that you'll like this card.  :-)  I'm 22 years old, love analog photography and my 2 young cats.  Wishing you all the best.  Enjoy the summer!  Carina"

United States - Black & White Movie Actors

July 25, 2015

Bob sent this card from California to me.  He wrote a very nice and chatty note on the back of the card.  He wrote, " Hello from Hot and Sunny California!  The Marx Brothers are one of my very favorite comedy teams...so I hope you like this postcard.  I am a professor at a small college in Central California.  I teach theatre arts.  I enjoy it very much.  It keeps me feeling young!  My best, Bob."

United States

Received July 23, 2015/ Registered July 25, 2015

This card arrived, but the number on it was incorrect.  I asked Postcrossing to send me the correct number, but I ended up receiving 2 other cards with similar numbers from the US in a short span of time, so they weren't able to tell me which one it was.  I finally found it out by trying each individual number at the end of the card and got it registered.

It is quite hard to read this card, some of the ink has smeared a bit and the handwriting is a little messy so please forgive me if it doesn't make sense!  "At softball game of son-pouring rain.  Rainy summer! Friday is Girl's Night...Games, Fun, Laughs, Food, In A computer class -I hope I pass!  We have 4 pigs to take to the fair in Aug.  It is a fun/crazy 9 days!  Pigs have to weigh 220-280lbs!"

I have no information about the sender from the profile either, there wasn't a profile.

Here's the card!
The Swiss Room in the Cathedral of Learning at the the University of Pittsburgh was
dedicated in 2012.  It is typical of Swiss communal rooms of the 1500s.  The four trestle tables
represent the nation's ethnic regions: German, French, Italian and Romansch. (The next few words are unreadable as the card was stamped there.) The....design dates to the 1640s."

Because he is handsome, strong, brave! "The Fault in Our Stars" is good too! Also I like to cook, because it will make me happy, ha ha! I want to have a foreignal husband too!  Have a nice day~~~"

Where I live, I'm the foreigner, not my husband, but I understand what she means!  Thanks for the card Yuh Jye.

Hong Kong

July 23, 2015

I received this cool little card from Yip in Hong Kong.  I'm not really sure if she made this card herself or if she bought it, but I love it!  It is really cool.

She wrote on the back," Hello, nice to meet you.  I am Yip from Hong Kong.  I love mushroom, and drawing.  Handmade some about mushroom's little thing.  This made me happy.  This week I will sell my product in handmade market.  Happy Postcrossing.  Yip."

Yes, this is a shaped card.
I put the black behind it to make it stand out more.

The stamp and the cancellation stamp are also very interesting.  I really like them!

Thank you Yip!  I love the card and stamps!

Russia - Black & White Actress Card

July 21, 2015

Tatiana sent this great card from Russia.  She wrote a friendly note to me on the back of the card and used some incredibly gorgeous stamps too.  Check them out below.  She wrote, "Hello!  My name is Tatiana.  I'm from Noronezh (Russia) . I love to travel. And hope that someday I will visit your country.  T. "

Audrey Hepburn
These are truly beautiful stamps.  The cat stamp is great, the round vegetable one is also very cool.  It has been covered by the postmark which makes it hard to read.  The one with the horse is also lovely!  These are great!

China - Movie card

July 21, 2015

Hana sent this card from China, but wrote that she had just sent me another one on her other account. However, she didn't say for sure which one it was, so I'm not completely certain.  I think it was this one but she didn't answer my thank you note when I asked her.

This sender also used fabulous stamps and wrote a lovely note, "Hello! Again!  It's very coincident that my another account got your address  too today.  So, I'm sending you the second movie card.  I've never seen this movie before, did you?  Hope you'll enjoy them.  Happy Postcrossing!!! Hana Chen."

I haven't seen this movie, but I would like to.  The writer is good as are the actors.

These stamps are lovely too.  And that little sticker on the end is cute!

Thanks for your cards Hana!

Italy - Yarn

July 21, 2015

I spend a lot of free time with yarn in my hands, I'm a diehard crafter, so this card made me very happy.

Svetlana sent it to me from Italy with a short and sweet note. She wrote,"Hello!  My name's Svetlana.  I'm Russian, but live and work in Italy."

Could there be anything better than having a stamp (or two) with chocolate on it?  Only if the stamp tasted like chocolate!  There's a wikipedia article about the chocolate mentioned.  The stamp on the far left I don't know anything about again.

Russia - Food/Recipe

July 21, 2015

Maria sent this yummy looking card to me from Russia.  It is for a dish called Pelmeni, but to me it looks like Perogies!  Wikipedia tells me that I'm correct, Perogies are very similar to Pelmeni.

She only wrote a short note as the recipe takes up much of the back of the card.  She wrote, "Hello!  My name is Maria.  I live in Perm.  I like to travel, music, reading books, baking.  Happy Postcrossing!"

This stamp has a stamp on it!  A very famous one, the Penny Black!  Anyone know anything about this stamp? I love it anyway.

Czech Republic

July 21, 2015

Alene wrote a lovely longish note on the back of this lovely card.  Some of it is about herself, so I'll leave it out for her privacy.

About the card she says, "This postcard is picture of our capital with many historical bridges - most famous is Charles Bridge from 15th Century.  They builded it with many theescores of eggs :-) and also stones...It was my dream to get postcard from Japan and this became truth last week. Happy Postcrossing, Alene from Czech Republic"

This big stamp on the right looks like it might be for Letter-Writing day, or some such thing.  I like it!  There was also a smaller stamp in the corner of the card, but I didn't scan it.

United States of America - Art

July 18, 2015

I got this great card from Annie in the US.  She wrote a lovely note about a movie that she loves.  It is so refreshing to see someone write about something that I am interested in too!

"Hello!  I'm a student at the University of Washington in Seattle, but right now, I'm on break for the summer.  My favorite movie right now is Song of the Sea.  I saw it in the theater with my brother, and I was super excited because I thought I'd missed my chance to see it in theaters - it came out in December, but it wasn't showing near us until March.  Even then, it was only playing in Arthouse theaters.  It's a beautifully animated movie about a boy whose little sister is a selkie... I really love animated films.  Happy Postcrossing! Annie"

Norman Rockwell (American, 1894-1978)
The Most Beloved American Writer, 1937

When I thanked Annie for the card, I told her that I thought the card had the vibe of Jo from Little Women.  It's a great card of the writing process.

China - Movie Card

July 18, 2015

This fun card arrived in my mailbox recently.  I didn't go and see the film when it played in my city because it had received horrible reviews and I thought I could catch it on cable if I wanted to.  However, the card was sent and now I feel a little sad that I didn't try harder to see it.

She wrote, "Greetings from China!  I saw you said would like to receive cards about movie.  So, I chose this one for you.  The Ninja Turtles is the first American TV comic I've seen when I was a little kid.  Hope you'll like this."

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

These stamps are utterly amazing.  They are so beautiful.
Thank you so much!

Australia - Maxi-Card

July 15, 2015

Kathryn sent this to me from Australia.  She and I have something in common.  We both seem to enjoy movies!

"Greetings from Australia.  My name is Kathryn and I live in Perth.  This card is a tourist boat in Katherine Gorge.  I have been in a very similar one in Geikie Gorge in Western Australia.  I had a great family holiday there when my children were young.  I also love the movie Dead Again.  My all-time favourite movie is Witness with Harrison Ford.  Best wishes, Kathryn."

I love the film Witness too...and Dead Again is in my Top 10 of all time!
