The Netherlands

March 23, 2014

This card with its examples of fabric for the national dress in a fishing village called Spakenburg is interesting.  The sender notes that we can see 5 types of fabric used on the card.  She continues by saying that the women in the village wear little white caps on their head, which they crochet themselves.  They use a very thin thread and needle as you can see from the postcard's picture.   She finishes by saying that she hopes I like the card, and to have a nice day!

I'm always happy to see examples of crochet, although I half wonder if she means that the lace is tatted.  In any case, the work is very fine and beautiful.

Cultural Feast in Spakenburg, "colored costumes"
The stamps are very unusual too.  I'm not sure if the Harry Potter one is a real stamp, but it looks like it is connected to the bell stamp, so it may be.  The mailbox stamp is a first for me, as is the couple in the bottom right's stamp.    I love the stamps!

A really nice postcrossing for me.  Thank you :-)
