This delicious looking card came all the way from Germany. Anya said that she lives in Hamburg, a wonderful city in the north of Germany. She likes France and (French) cheese. She always tries to find new kinds on her journeys all over the world. She asks if we have a special cheese in Japan.
Sad to say Anya, we don't. When I first came here 16 years ago, I couldn't find any decent cheese at all in the grocery stores. Gradually, we could find domestic Camembert and marscapone, and now we can get slivers of some foreign cheeses but they are expensive. Also, it is almost impossible to find something like an aged Cheddar (in my area) as Japanese people don't seem to like strong tastes in cheese. There are many processed cheeses available and some of them have interesting flavours...wasabi, sesame, black pepper, etc. I like them for melting on bread, but they aren't really cheese in my opinion!
The stamp on the right shows Glücksburg Castle, a Renaissance castle in northern Germany. Too bad the cancellation stamp blocks most of it.
