Philippines - Food

This card came to me from -S- in the Philippines. She wrote a very friendly note on the back in all caps so it is a little hard to read.  I won't transcribe it in all caps though!

She wrote;

"Dear Helen,
Greetings from Manilla, Philippines. We went to Osaka last year and we love it. Specially, my kids. We love the culture, and food. I love Kyoto the most. Maybe one day, we can go to Tokyo side. My kids love the Japanese braised pork. It taste clean and easy to cook. Adobo is a Filipino version of braised pork. It taste better when you freeze it for more than 2 days. It's good with rice. But we love ramen more than rice. Have a nice day ahead. -S-"

I like recipe cards, but my only beef(!) with this one is that it doesn't have the method of cooking on it. Some cards put the ingredients on the front like this one, but the method on the back. There isn't any how to make it. Sigh. If I was motivated I could look it up I suppose. I did make a Chicken Adobo once or twice in my slow cooker and I really liked that!

I'm not sure why it shows as a pinkish card, it is the colour of cardboard, a light brown card.

Poland - Recipe

This great card came to me from Ula in Poland.  She wrote a friendly note on the back and used a couple of gorgeous floral stamps.

Here's what she said,

I have never made carrot cake...I like it, but often find the icing to be too sweet for me.  I do like this card and the recipe does look doable.

Aren't these flowers pretty?  I think so!

Belarus - Food

Natalia sent this card to me from Belarus.  She wrote a lovely chatty note on the back which made me quite happy, as did this yummy looking card.

"Hello from Belarus! :-) My name's Natalia.
I've read on your profile that you'd like to receive a post card with a pic of some national dish on it.  Actually Belarusian cusine is connected with potato.  It is even called 'the second bread'! On the front side of the postcard you can see 'draniki'.

It's a very popular national dish in Belarus. Actually it's potato pancakes.  They are made from grated potatoes with flour, eggs, soda and salt. (It's a recipe of 'draniki' in Russian)"

Great Britain - Recipe Card

Andy sent this card from Wales to me.  He used an envelope in hopes that the card would arrive safely without being damaged, but the post office had other ideas.  It is still a nice card though.

This card came to me from Joceile who wrote a nice note on the back.  She picked an interesting card for me.  We have lots of crab here in Japan of course, but not the same kind.  I honestly don't know if people make crab cakes here. They do make croquettes, which are not quite the same thing though.

Anta sent this great card to me from Germany, with a lovely long and green message on the back!  (She used a green pen!)  I like this card, but unfortunately, I've not much idea about the recipe on the front.

Greetings from Germany, Weiman. My name is Anta, I'm from Ukraine but I live here and study architecture.  I do love creativity and drawing.  That's why the town I live in is so great for me - it's called "Dichterstadt", "The town of poets". And the atmosphere is great and very nice here.

On this postcard is about traditional German food.  It's cooked from potatoes.  Germany is a "potatoes -  country" they have many traditional dishes like this.

Also, I've read that you like "Hotel Budapest"! It's my fav movie too!

This delicious looking card arrived in June from Malaysia.  There isn't too much written on the back of the card sad to say, but enough that I don't feel depressed about it!

Phoenix wrote, "Hi, Sending you a food related card.  I got this from a supermarket in South Africa.  I went there for business.  Cheers, Phoe"

The recipe for the dish is on the back.  If anyone really wants it let me know and I can either scan it or copy it out for you! Scan would be easier for me!

I like the stamps...the two are golfing related, the other is a kind of plant.

This foodie card arrived in my mailbox recently.  The recipe sounded quite good, so for the first time ever, I tried a version of the recipe.  It was quite nice too, so I might try it again! The recipe was for a pasta sauce...I didn't serve the zucchini on pasta, and I didn't have any creme fraise, so I used strained yogurt and it was quite nice.  

Jörg sent this card from Germany with a nice little note on the back.  I was a little surprised at the front of the card because I am decidedly NOT a working mom...or a mom of any sort.  I thought it was a bit presumptuous. 

The card says, " Hello!

A very interesting looking stamp.  I like the way the painter is adding colour to it!

Czech Republic - Double Feature

I was very lucky to receive two cards from the Czech Republic on the same day.  It isn't a usual thing, but was very nice.

The two cards are both quite nice.

First up, Pavel sent this card with a very informative message on the back.  He sent a great card and a nice stamp too.

He wrote, "Hello, the Reliquary of St. Maurus is one of the most valuable relics of the goldsmith's trade in the Czech Republic.  According to the latest research, the Reliquary of St. Maurus was created between 1225 and 1230. In 1888 the family of Beaufort-Spontin transferred the shrine to their castle Becov nad Teplou.  Reliquary is considered to be the second most important historical artefact in the Czech territory after the Czech Crown Jewels.  Bye Pavel"

My second card today comes from young Tonik.  He didn't write much, but the back of the card really didn't leave him much room anyway.  The back has a recipe on it.  

He said, "Hello, My name is Tonik. I'm sending the greetings from the Czech Republic.  Best wishes. Tonik."

He also made a note that it was 12℃ and rainy at the time of writing.   Thanks :-)

Germany - Recipe/Food

Gabriela sent this card to me from Germany.  The front has a recipe on it, but it is in German.  Gabriela was nice enough to translate it for me.

She writes, "Hello, many greetings from Germany.  You like cards related to food, this is why I send you this recipe card.
'Cut 1 onion, 2 celery sticks, 1 carrot and 1 clove of garlic, saute in olive oil.  Add 850 g of canned tomatoes and 250 mL bouillon.  Simmer for 20 minutes.  Puree the soup with a blender and pour it through a sieve.  Heat again, add 25 g butter + 200 mL of cream, flavor with salt, sugar and a lot of nutmeg. Serve with basil.'

I don't know if you can buy all these ingredients in Japan but I hope you like the card itself.  All the best for you, Gabriela"

I tidied up the recipe's English a little for clarity, but it sounds like it would be a good recipe.  Alas, although we CAN buy all the ingredients here, I cannot eat tomato soup, so I can't make this.

I think this is a double stamp as both sides have an amount listed and it is very long!  The picture is quite beautiful too.

Russia - Food/Recipe

Maria sent this yummy looking card to me from Russia.  It is for a dish called Pelmeni, but to me it looks like Perogies!  Wikipedia tells me that I'm correct, Perogies are very similar to Pelmeni.

She only wrote a short note as the recipe takes up much of the back of the card.  She wrote, "Hello!  My name is Maria.  I live in Perm.  I like to travel, music, reading books, baking.  Happy Postcrossing!"

This stamp has a stamp on it!  A very famous one, the Penny Black!  Anyone know anything about this stamp? I love it anyway. 

Thai Food from Russia

I received this card from Mila at the start of June.  The recipe does sound good, but unfortunately I'm not fond of very spicy food.  

She writes, "My name is Mila.  I live near the Moscow with my husband.  We are like travel.  We are visited Thailand last winter.  It was fantastic adventure(especially local food!!!)

I like start my ordinary morning with a cup of coffee without milk.  At the same time, I like examine new postcards.

 I don't know if I've had these stamps before, but I don't know anything about them.  Anyone out there?

Even though Mila sent a card from another country than her own, the fact that she talked about her trip to Thailand and the food in Thailand meant that there was a reason, and she made the connection for me.  I really appreciate it.

This delicious looking card popped up in my mailbox a little while ago.  It features a smoked duck breast salad.  It looks yummy.

Coby wrote," Greetings from the Netherlands.  My name is Coby.  I live in [redacted] in the north-west near the beach and the sea.  Now I am for a short stay in France.  I hope you like this card, I found it here for you. Eero sent this card from Finland to me.  He writes on his profile that he only knows "Dictionary English" which helps to explain what he wrote on the back of his card!

He wrote "Hello" , and the name of this recipe with Google Translate underneath it and an arrow pointing to it.    Then, there was "Greetings from Finland - Eero" at the end.

Russia - Recipe Card

This interesting sounding recipe from Russia came from Anastasiya.  She sends greetings from Russia.  She writes that she is 22 and lives in Kira.  She works at a gas company and studies at a driving school.  She wishes I get a lot of postcards!

She also wrote the temperature -3℃ and snowy.  Thanks!

I've had dill pickle soup in Canada and just loved it.  I'm not sure if this is a similar thing or not.

These are fairly common stamps, but it is nice to see this grouping of them.

France - Recipe

Giulia sent this great recipe card to me.  It has rather a sad history though.  It is the second card that she sent.  About a month ago, Giulia messaged me to see if her first card had arrived.  It hadn't.  I always register my cards on the day that I receive them, so I knew I hadn't got it.  She very nicely offered to send a second card.  I told her she didn't have to, but she did.  And, here it is!

She translated the recipe on the back into English, and then wrote a small message that said, "There's my 2nd card.  I hope you'll receive & enjoy it.  Best wishes,  Giulia"

Russia - Food

Vasily sent this delicious looking card from Russia.  He writes that he's 36 years old and lives in St. Petersburg.  He's married and has two children.  He says that his hobby is railroad models, he likes music and plays the trumpet.  He likes to travel as well.    He closes with his best regards.

The recipe on the back says to scale the fish, make cuts and put slices of lemon inside them.  Rub the inside of the fish with pepper and salt, spray with some oil and lemon juice.  Bake in the oven for 30 minutes at 180℃ and serve.

It also says to make things a little more interesting, add a slice of tomato or onion to the inside of the fish, depending on your taste.

I think this sounds quite good.  I might even enjoy this if my DH ever let me make it like this!

Olga wrote me a lovely little note on the back of this yummy card.  She said she is 21 years old and a student.  Her hobbies include playing the guitar, reading and sports.    She hopes I'll like this card and wishes me good luck and happy Postcrossing.

The recipe sounds like real comfort food.  Bacon and potatoes and onions.  Yum.

This stamp is a new one for me.  I like it a lot!
