China - Food

 June 25, 2020

This lovely card arrived back in June from Caiute.  She wrote a short but friendly note on her card.

She said;

Hello! A greeting from China! My name is Caiute. This food is "Instant Spicy Steampot", from Chengdu City. I like it.  Best Wishes!

The fish and the kitty on the back of the stamp is a big sticker. I was able to get a good copy of it for you.

Czech Republic - Food

March 24, 2020

Belka sent this card from the Czech Republic in January, but it didn't arrive here until the end of March. Slow mail perhaps?

She wrote a long note on the back and my readers know that I enjoy that!

She wrote;

"Hello Helen.

Many greetings from the Czech Republic, Europe. This card shows a typical Czech Eastern [Easter?]  sweet bread (I do not know how better call it.) It is full of raisins and candied fruit. Around the card are Eastern [Easter?] eggs drawn by wax and then colored - the wax makes white pictures on the egg. It is my favourite technique, but unfortunately less and less people (women) color eggs for Easter [Easter?] .

Best regards. Belka

This looks so delicious!

An interesting stamp, it commemorates a Czech artist.

Russia - Food

March 13, 2020

This card came to me in an envelope from Katya in Russia. She sent along a translation of the recipe on the card which was a lovely thing to do. She also wrote a lot, which is nice to see!

She wrote,

"Hello Helen!
Konnichiwa! You received this postcard from 30 y.o. Ukrainian girl Katya. Now I live in Kaluga city, Russia, with my husband, our 3, 5 y.o daughter Tonya and our 1,5 y.o. cat Pixel. My hobbies are foreign languages (I know English & Spanish, learning Korean), music, Spanish and Asian culture. I love Japanese & dream to travel there some day!

I want to look at flowering sakuras!

As you like food, this card with a berries cake is for you.

Happy Spring!

Katya"

Along with the postcard and translation, Katya sent some cool notepaper in different fruit shapes.  It's really nice to receive envelopes with fun stuff in them.

This is just part of the envelope Katya sent.  Look at the very cool stamps she used!

Netherlands - Food

March 10, 2020

This card, with its delicious-sounding recipe, came to me from Tessa in the Netherlands.  She wrote a friendly message on the back and asked about Japan.  Many people ask me about Japan, but for most people, the Japan they want to see stops after Tokyo, Kyoto and maybe Osaka.  Up north where I live, it is much, much different. Life is slower and a lot less crowded!

She wrote,
"Hi Helen,
Greetings from Capelle[something] den Yssel, a city close to Rotterdam (2nd biggest city of the Netherlands).

I would love to visit Japan one day. I travel a lot, also for work but unfortunately not to Japan so far. What is a must see?

I love running & cycling or reading a good book.

The dish is mainly eaten as a side in winter. Happy posta,

Tessa"

Belarus - Food

January 31, 2020

Lenore sent this from Belarus with a lovely stamp and a short but cheerful message!

She said,

"Hello, my dear friend!

My name's Lenore and I'm from Belarus. I want to wish you all the best in this wonderful year!"

A late Christmas greeting.  Lovely any time of year!

The stamp was put on upside down, but is so lovely that I had to show it the "right" way up!

Germany - Food & Coffee

September 17, 2019

Ralf sent this card with a lot of writing on the back.  I was very happy to receive this card!

He said,
"Hello Helen!
I am Ralf from Remscheid, Germany, 67 y.o., retired. You see the 'Bergische Kaffeetafel.' It consists of currants rye place, milk porridge, honey, black bread, butter, quark, waffles, cinnamon and sugar, Burger Pretzel, cast-iron rusk, jam, sausage and ham. The coffee pot with the name 'Droppel-mina' as the queen of the table. "Koffedrenken..." means: drinking coffee with all the trimmings.

Finland - Food, Flowers and Drink

August 5, 2019

This beautiful card came from a young woman in Finland.  She wrote in felt pen on the back, so she didn't have much space to write!

She wrote;

"Hello and greetings from Finland! Here in the picture there is a "metsa"mansikkaa" and "mehua" in English, Forest Strawberries and juice. This postcard I bought from city named Pori.
Happy Postcrossing."

This is a very pretty stamp!

Philippines - Food

July 19, 2019

This card came to me from -S- in the Philippines. She wrote a very friendly note on the back in all caps so it is a little hard to read.  I won't transcribe it in all caps though!

She wrote;

"Dear Helen,
Greetings from Manilla, Philippines. We went to Osaka last year and we love it. Specially, my kids. We love the culture, and food. I love Kyoto the most. Maybe one day, we can go to Tokyo side. My kids love the Japanese braised pork. It taste clean and easy to cook. Adobo is a Filipino version of braised pork. It taste better when you freeze it for more than 2 days. It's good with rice. But we love ramen more than rice. Have a nice day ahead. -S-"

I like recipe cards, but my only beef(!) with this one is that it doesn't have the method of cooking on it. Some cards put the ingredients on the front like this one, but the method on the back. There isn't any how to make it. Sigh. If I was motivated I could look it up I suppose. I did make a Chicken Adobo once or twice in my slow cooker and I really liked that!

I'm not sure why it shows as a pinkish card, it is the colour of cardboard, a light brown card.

Czech Republic - Food

July 3, 2019

Verka sent a friendly message from the Czech Republic.  Some of it is in Czech, which I will not type here, as I'm not sure how I would do that!

She wrote,

"Hello Stella, Greetings from Czech Republic.  On the postcard are cakes-typical Czech with poppy and nuts. Have a nice day.

Vĕrka

I really like these stamps, although I'm not sure who the man is in the big stamp.

United Kingdom via Germany - Food

July 1, 2019

Marion sent this card from Germany, but she actually bought it in the UK.  I'm not a big fan of that, I prefer to receive cards from the country that they are sent from, but it is a great card!

She wrote,

Hello Helen,
greetings from Hamburg. My name is Marion. I am 50 years old. In my spare time I love to travel and visit places I haven't been to before. My current project is to visit all European capitals. 😀 Hope you like the card. I brought it from my last summer holiday to Cornwall. Best wishes Marion

Germany - Food & Drink

March 18, 2019

Birgit sent this card from Germany with a little note about herself.  I like personalized notes so this was nice to receive.

My dream destination is the North Pole.
Best wishes Birgit

Germany - Food

March 18, 2019

This was an odd card to receive as it has a child on it and I have specifically asked NOT to receive cards with children on it. The sender sent it as it has food on it, but didn't explain why they ignored the other part of my request!

Fati wrote,

Since you like food, I send you my grandson Raphael enjoying his favorite meal with gusto for his birthday : "Psaghetti"  :-)

I can imagine how life is different in Japan. Do you cope well?  I live part time in Germany and the other part in Dubai.

Fati

I do wonder if his parents know that his grandmother is sending pictures of their child all over the world?!

Russia - Food

January 5, 2019

I am behind posting to this blog, but the sad thing is that I don't have a lot of time for Postcrossing anymore.  I don't have a convenient post office near my husband's house and that makes it difficult to buy stamps and mail my cards.  Nevertheless, I am trying to send a few cards every month, so I hope things will improve soon!

Anyway, this card arrived in January and was very welcome.  Alina sent this to me and wrote a great note on the back of the card, which I will share with you.  The pancakes look yummy and it was just Shrove Tuesday this week, so hopefully, that makes it okay to post after the long delay!

She wrote;
Hello Helen!

My name is Alina, I am 20 years old. I live in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The postcard shows pancakes. In Russia there is a tradition to bake them on Maslenitsu (Shrove Tuesday) - a farewell to winter and spring meeting. The ancients considered them a symbol of the sun.

Hope you like it!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

China - Food

January 2, 2019

This cute card came to me from China with a short but friendly note on the back.

Daisy wrote,

Hello from China.
The famous biangbiang noodle of Shaanxi province.
The name of this noodle is very difficult to write in Chinese.

Daisy from Shanghai.

The kanji for biangbiang is very difficult!
A great assortment of stamps!

November 12, 2018

This card arrived rather a while ago. It was sent by Monika who wrote a short friendly note on the back.

She wrote,

Hello Helen!

Greetings from Austria!
On this card you can see some impressions of our beautiful capital Vienna. My older son is studying there. W.A. Mozart is one of my favourite composers.

Best wishes, Monika

This is a gorgeous stamp, really like it too.

Russia - Food

November 9, 2018

Katya sent this card to me from Russia. She taped an oak leaf on the back and wrote a friendly note about her city, so obviously, I like this card!

She wrote;

Hello Helen!

Greeting from the city of Tula - the birthplace of samovars and gingerbread! This photo shows soup borsch and it's recipe, we like it.

I hope someday you cook it.

By the way, this is the leaf oak (to the attached leaf)

With best wishes! Katya.

I would like to make this recipe but beets are a little hard to find here. Also, I have a sensitivity to tomatoes so
this would be difficult for me to eat.

The red stamp that Katya used on the back is rather gorgeous. It's a FIFA stamp.

India - Food

November 5, 2018

This delicious looking card came from Soumya in India. She wrote a friendly note on the back of the card too.  When I wrote to her I said that her card made me hungry for Indian food, so I visited the Indian restaurant in my city soon after I received it! Funny thing is, writing about this card again makes me want to go back again :-)

She wrote;

Namaste! greetings from India! I have heard so many good things of Japan. That make me wanna visit it some-day. Japan's cherry blossoms are my favourite. I heard people pack picnic lunches while they bloom. I have also heard a lot about Mt. Fuji :-)

Finland - Food

September 25, 2018

This attractive card came from Tuija in Finland.  She wrote a short note on the back to me. Yay!

She said,

"Happy Greetings!"
It's starting to be colourful fall here in Finland nowadays.
I don't like mushrooms but I do like lingonberries! I make
jam and porridge from those berries :-)

Take care.
Tuija

Happy Greetings!
Beautiful stamps too!  I also like seeing the priority sticker.
