Netherlands - Black & White Movie Scene

 Arrived August 25, 2026

Yulia send this card from The Netherlands where she has been living for 7 years. She has visited Japan, but probably not up in my area. She noted on the back that she loves Roman Holiday a lot!

It's a great card and Audrey Hepburn is very popular here in Japan, so thank you!

Yulia also used some cool stamps on the back, so here you are....

Writer - Black & White Card

Germany

July 8, 2026

Dany sent this card of German author Bettina von Arnim who lived from 1785-1859. I looked her up but her Wiki wasn't very positive towards her.

Dany said that she studied Linguistics so she's interested in anything to do with languages and texts, and books. She said that von Arnim wrote about social and feministic topics in the 19th century. Her face even adorned banknotes and stamps!

There were some cute stamps on the card as well.

Black & White Actress Card

Received April 22, 2026

This is my favourite type of card!  It's a black and white card of an actress that I have never heard of before, causing me to do a bit of research on IMDb to find out more information. Yay!

Naveen wrote that this card shows Keerthy Suresh in the movie Mahanati (2018). It's a film biopic of the legendary actress Savitri. I haven't seen this film of course, but the actress whose life it was based on was an interesting person!

Keerthy Suresh as Savitri

He also used some cool stamps on the card that I haven't seen before.

Thanks for a cool postcard!

Finally I have received a few cards! I've been sending cards but they haven't been registered yet. Here is one of the cards that I received.  This card came to me from Finland and shows a British author. I haven't read her work, but she wrote a trilogy called Lark Rise to Candleford.  This is Flora Thompson.

The sender, Maarit, also used a Postcrossing stamp, so that was very cool too!

Europe and the United States

February 24, 2026

I received these three cards recently and am posting them so you can see them!

From Germany, this cute little food /chocolate card was sent by Anja. She told me that the card's writing means,"The secret ingredient is Love."

This black and white card from the US came from Matt. He didn't write a personalized message on the back of the card and instead pasted a message about Chicago having 2,716,450 residents.

This Map card from Austria arrived today. Silvia writes about her family and her garden. She also raises chickens for the eggs as they are expensive.

Three nice cards, which I enjoyed receiving.

Books and Author

 February 11 & 12, 2026

Sara from Belgium asked about nature in Japan versus Canada...no one usually asks about that! I think this is a vintage UNICEF postcard.

Opening a book --discover a world.

Rebecca sent this card featuring Muriel Spark and wrote about novels and films, my favourite subjects. She also mentioned that she has a Book Podcast called Canada Reads American Style. Check it out if you are interested!  I listened in tonight and it was very interesting.

Marc-André wrote from Germany. He's a teacher and wrote a short note on the back. He also used a very cool stamp on the back.

He wrote,

Hello Helen,

many greetings from Berlin.

I am a teacher for maths & physics. School started again in August and we all have to wear a mask everywhere on the school ground but not in the classes during our lessons. So we want to avoid that an infection will be spread in different classes.

Stay healthy!

Finland - Black & White Actress

 June 15, 2020

This card came to me from Finland. The sender wrote the whole card about Marlene Dietrich, the actress on the card, rather than anything about herself. It was quite a disappointing message. I love the card of course, but I can Wikipedia Marlene Dietrich myself! I can't Wikipedia the sender. Still, the card is great and the stamps are very cool.

Marjatta wrote;

Caroline wrote;

This card was scratched on the surface. The scan doesn't show too much of it, except a little in the upper left side of the picture.  It arrived with another card that was more damaged, so it was a bad day at the post office!

I really like the flamingos on the stamp. They're lovely!

I'm not sure what the stamps are about, but the first one is something to do with surgery and medicine I think.
