China - Food

 June 25, 2020

This lovely card arrived back in June from Caiute.  She wrote a short but friendly note on her card.

She said;

Hello! A greeting from China! My name is Caiute. This food is "Instant Spicy Steampot", from Chengdu City. I like it.  Best Wishes!

The fish and the kitty on the back of the stamp is a big sticker. I was able to get a good copy of it for you.

Finland - Black & White Actress

 June 15, 2020

This card came to me from Finland. The sender wrote the whole card about Marlene Dietrich, the actress on the card, rather than anything about herself. It was quite a disappointing message. I love the card of course, but I can Wikipedia Marlene Dietrich myself! I can't Wikipedia the sender. Still, the card is great and the stamps are very cool.

Marjatta wrote;

Hello!

Marie Magdalene "Marlene" Dietrich was a german-American actress and singer. She performed from the 1910s to the 1980s. The Blue Angel, Morocko [Morocco], Shan[g]hai Express, Blonde Venus, The Devil is a Woman, Desiree etc.

All the best!

Enjoyment without regrets!
And nothing else!

Really lovely stamps.

Russian Federation - Books

July 8, 2019

This card was a bit of a deja vu experience as I had received one the month before with the same picture. The writing was different though. The person didn't write a very personalized message, it was more of a geography lesson....

She wrote;

"Hello!
Download the app and direct the phone to the poststamp: App Store, Google Play ⇒mARko....and surprise:) [I never did try this]
Ulyanovsk is the only place in Europe where two deep rivers: Volga and Swiyaga proceed parallel to each other at a distance of 2km in the opposite direction. Best wishes!"

A really lovely stamp.

France - Actor in Black & White

May 2, 2019

This black & white card came to me from Thierry in France.  He wrote a nice note on the back too.

He wrote;

Hello Helen, for you, I found and choose this postcard with the actor Leonardo Di Caprio, it's one of my favorite.  Hope you like it. I'm Thierry, 54 old from Cogolin, in the southeast of France.

All the best,
Thierry

This card was scratched on the surface. The scan doesn't show too much of it, except a little in the upper left side of the picture.  It arrived with another card that was more damaged, so it was a bad day at the post office!

I really like the flamingos on the stamp. They're lovely!

Bulgaria

March 16, 2019

On my profile, I ask people to send pictures of things they like and to explain why they like it. Very few people ever take up the challenge (I wish more would!) but Irina in Bulgaria did. She wrote a lovely bit about the card and it really made my day.

She wrote,

Dear Helen, for your collection I've chosen this card because I like this pottery a lot! It's rather heavy though and I only buy plates sometimes - I like different cups and plates on my table - so I stopped buying sets long ago :)   I'm originally Russian, live in Sofia, fond of art & my two grown ups.

Lots of best wishes!
IRINA :)

Knowing that Irina likes this pottery makes it an even nicer card in my view.  Thanks so much :-)

I like the stamp too.  I don't receive a lot of cards from Bulgaria so this was a lovely Postcrossing.

Latvia

November 6, 2018

This card came to me from Ruslan in Latvia. He wrote a short note on the back of the card and told me about his day. I like that kind of thing very much!

He wrote;

Hello Helen!

Greetings from Latvia! I live to run and ride my bicycle. Yesterday morning I did my ride and I fell from bicycle and broke my rib! Now I need to rest for 3-4 weeks!

Best wishes,

Ruslan

This is a beautiful stamp. I really love it!

Finland - Food

September 25, 2018

This attractive card came from Tuija in Finland.  She wrote a short note on the back to me. Yay!

She said,

"Happy Greetings!"
It's starting to be colourful fall here in Finland nowadays.
I don't like mushrooms but I do like lingonberries! I make
jam and porridge from those berries :-)

Take care.
Tuija

Happy Greetings!
Beautiful stamps too!  I also like seeing the priority sticker.

Costa Rica

June 20, 2018

This card was a lovely surprise.  Costa Rica isn't a terribly common country to get so when this card arrived it made me quite happy.

One of my friends from high school spent a lot of time in Costa Rica and loved it. He always said it was a good place to go.  I would love to visit sometime!

Pablo wrote me a friendly message on the back;

Hello Helen:

My name is Pablo and I live in the capital city of my country. Costa Rica is a small and pacific country in Central America.  One interesting fact about Costa Rica is that we abolished our army in 1948.

Manuel Antonio [on the card] is my favorite national park, and also my favorite place in the whole world. I try to go there once every month, but this year I have only been there once, my work has kept me very busy.  Best Wishes.

China

March 12, 2018

I received this lovely card from Danbo in China. He dashed off a short note and used some gorgeous stamps on the card.  What's not to like about that?

He wrote,
"Ni-hao!  This is the world natural heritage - Guilin scenery of Southwestern China!
Happy Postcrossing!

Finland

November 27, 2017

This card came from Mika in Finland.  He wrote a friendly note and used a beautiful couple of stamps so I'm quite happy.

He wrote,

"Greetings from Finland!

I just love the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun". I'm passionate about travelling and living abroad (again) is a HUGE dream waiting to be fulfilled!

Happy Postcrossing!

I quite like these stamps.  They are both quite beautiful in their way.

Taiwan - Movie Card

November 20, 2017

This cool card came from Taiwan to me.  It was sent by Yi-Wei and she wrote a very short and friendly note on the card.

She wrote,

"Hello! Greetings from Taiwan, my name is Yi-Wei. I'm glad to have opportunity to send card to you. I hope you enjoy it. Welcome to Taiwan! Yi-Wei."

I did see this film, but sadly I didn't really like it.  I thought the one with Brendan Fraser was much better.

An interesting stamp too!

Thanks Yi-Wei!

Finland

November 7, 2017

This nature card came from Finland to me.  The sender wrote a friendly note on the back and even recommended a book to me, so that made it a good Postcrossing in my book!

She wrote,
"Hello Helen!  My name is Taru and I'm from Finland.  I recently read a book called The Help by Kathryn Stockett.  It was really good.  I would totally recommend it.  It's been really snowy here in Finland and I love it! I hope you have a great autumn! ~Taru"

This is quite a pretty little stamp too.  Finnish stamps are always interesting, in my opinion.

China

September 8, 2017

This card came to me from China and was sent by a person who wrote her card in Japanese using Google Translate.  I don't know why she did that as she said that she wanted to write in English (according to my husband).  I don't read Japanese and I say that in my profile so perhaps she doesn't read English that well either.

Unfortunately I can't transcribe what she wrote on the back of the card. It seems friendly enough however.

She also used a pretty stamp, so I'm happy that she did send the card to me.

I have no idea what this card represents!
I do like the bird stamp, however.

Ukraine

August 14, 2017

This beautiful card came to me from Daryna, a University student in the Ukraine.  She sent a very chatty green message on the back of her card and used some gorgeous stamps too.

She wrote,

Hello Helen!

Greetings from Ukraine :-)
My name is Daryna, I'm 17 y. old student of National University, Ostroh Academy, where I learn international relations.

Your address is my first since I made a pause in doing Postcrossing.  Earlier it became a little bit expensive for me, in that time I was in school and didn't have own costs to do them freely, but now, when I have a scholarship, I decided to return to my hobby.

I love dogs and reading different things about happening in the world.  I'm really interested in history of different countries, last thing that I read was about war in Vietnam and tools (and conditions) which helped Vietnamese people to win it.  Now I'm trying to learn Prolaic [very hard to read word, might have it wrong] language, but it seems hard, because many letters of their ABC don't have analogue in Ukr.  Hope you have a nice summer!

Have a look at these gorgeous stamps!  Really beautiful.  The big ones on top are amazing!

United States of America

August 2, 2017

This card came from Stephanie who lives in the US. She sent this gorgeous card with a friendly note on the back.  This was a nice postcrossing in my opinion!

"Hello Helen,
My name is Stephanie & I live in Arizona.  I love this postcard because its such a great photo of the Grand Canyon.  I've been there 3 times & it beautiful.  I hope you have a great week.
Always, Stephanie"

I rather like this stamp. It shows a Red Knot and the date is 2015 if you look closely.  Cute stamp!

United States

July 14, 2017

This card came to me from the US.  The sender, Krissy used great stamps and even wrote a nice note on the back.  Hurray for that.

She said,
July 5 2017

Hello Helen!

Wow I bet that is quite a different life there.  I always wanted to live in another country even just for a little while.  I have a friend who lived there for 5 years as a teacher.  It sounds like quite an adventure.

Cheers, Krissy

The stamps are very interesting too.  It is a shame the heart one was so marked with the cancellation stamp.

Hong Kong - Taiwan's Food

February 28, 2017

This interesting card came from a sender in Hong Kong.  I was a little confused at first, because the card comes from Taiwan, but these things happen.

Oyster Omelet
Emilie wrote,
"Hello 😀
Taiwan is close to
Japan. I guess you must
have visited there before.
I love Taiwanese food
very much. Super delicious!
And Oyster omelet is
my recommendation!
😀 Best, Emilie"

Emilie used some really gorgeous bird stamps on my postcard.  They are quite beautiful. Remember, if you click on the pictures, you can see them bigger!  It is worth it for these stamps.

This Valentine's Day themed card arrived recently and came with a friendly message and a gorgeous stamp.  Follow me and find out more!

Merja sent this from Finland and writes,

This is truly a lovely stamp.  I've never seen it before but it really impresses me.

Actress - Black and White Card

October 1, 2016

This lovely card came from Solace in the US. It had some interesting stamps on it too.

She wrote,
"Greetings from Pensacola Florida in the USA. I am a mom of 3 and a radiographer at a local trauma hospital.  I enjoy reading puzzles, games, art, stamps, coins--Solace"

Elizabeth Taylor
The stamps, especially the Janis Joplin one, are very cool.
