Switzerland - Food Related

July 29, 2016

Simone sent this intriguing card to me from Switzerland.  I always wanted to go to Switzerland when I was a child.  I think it was because I read Heidi and wanted to meet her and Grandfather!

Simone wrote about the card and about the movies that she likes on the back, so I really enjoyed receiving this one.

She wrote,
"Greetings from Switzerland! We live here on the lake of Zurich and now we have so hot and go swim every day.  The picture on the postcard is a popular brand of ice cream.  All peoples love them! We say, 'Ich will ein Seehund-Glace' on English: I need a seal-ice cream.  I LOVE the movie Oblivion and the Man in the Iron Mask.  And Gone Girl.  The book "Cry Baby" is so crazy!! And I love to cooking, that's my relaxing. ❤️

Greetings, Simone ❤️"

She noted that it was 32℃ and sunny

Really interesting stamps, but as usual, I have no information about them.

Germany - Movie

July 27, 2016

Peggy sent this fabulous movie card to me from Germany with a friendly note on the back.  I'm very pleased with this card as I liked the film that it shows a lot.  I saw it a lot when I was in High School studying Romeo and Juliet.

Peggy wrote,

"Hello!  Greetings from Germany.  I love Canada!  I want to visit France, Spain and Greece.  I would like to visit New Zealand and Australia.  I hope you like the card.  Have a good day and happy summer!
Peggy"

"Hello!  Greetings from Portugal: My name is Inês. I am 27 years old and I live in Lisbon.  This card is from an old Portuguese movie.  I don't remember see it, but I had this card and thought you may like.  I'm not a very cinema girl.  I prefer read.  Nice to meet you.

Inês"

A pretty little stamp, not sure what it represents.

Moldova

July 25, 2016

Hi again!  Welcome back, and did I ever say thank you for reading?  I meant to do it, it just slipped my mind.  Thank you for coming and having a look at my beautiful cards.

I recently received this card from Moldova, which I just had to look up!  It is apparently between Ukraine and Romania in Europe.   It's a fairly rare Postcrossing country and this is the first card that I have received from it, although I have sent 4 cards to Moldova.

Maria sent the card to me with a sweet little note.

She wrote,
"Hello!
My name is Maria, I'm 15.  And I envy to you because I dream to live in Japan.  I love this country very much, it is beautiful.  With best wishes, Maria.
P.S. My favourite movie is 'Leon: the Professional'"

Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine
I'm not sure if there was a stamp on the card originally or not, but there wasn't one when it arrived.  There was half of a cancelation stamp and a little picture in the corner of the card where the stamp should be.  It's a mystery!

United States

July 25, 2016

Heather sent this card with an excited message to me.  She didn't write a lot on the back of her card, but it was a fun card to receive.

She said,

"Greetings from Colorado!  I won tickets to a concert tonight - I'm very excited! Have a great day!
Heather :) "

France - Food Related

July 23, 2016

Today's card arrived from Manuela.  She wrote what seems like a friendly note on the back, but she wrote it all in French.  I got the general gist of the card because I like French even though I'm a bit rusty these days.  Please feel free to test yourself and see how you do!

She wrote,
"Bonjour
Je m'appelle Manuela.  J'ai 35 ans et 3 enfants. J'adore les années 70, la music rock psyche'délic et les plantes grasses. Ici il fait 27℃ et il y à grand soleil.  Happy Postcrossing!! 😃  Manuela"

How did you do?  My transcription is likely to blame for any problems in her writing...blame me, not her!

Google Translate came up with this...

"Hello
My name is Manuela. I am 35 years old and 3 children. I love the 70s, the music rock psyche'délic and succulents. Here it is 27 ℃ and there in the sun."

Merci beaucoup Manuela!

Thailand - Book Related

July 21, 2016

This card came into my box in July.  It had a short and I think friendly note on the back. It was my first card from Thailand.

Noi wrote,
"Sawasdee from Bangkok Thailand, the land of Smile.  Noi :-)"

There was a prepaid stamp in one corner and a note that if the card was for international use 6 baht in postage had to be added.

Germany

July 21, 2016

This quite delicious looking card landed in my mailbox.  It was sent by Angela in Germany.  She wrote a friendly note on the back to me.

"Hello, greetings from Germany!  My name is Angela and I live in a small town close to the Ruhrarea. I'm 56 y.o. and I have a grown up daughter.  On the front you can see my favourite vegetable: potatoes :) and I like garlic as well.  Take care, Angela"

Japan

July 20, 2016

This card only took two days to reach me.  Why? Because it was mailed in Japan!  Yay.  Yumie sent me a card and wrote a lovely note on the back.

She wrote,

"How are you?
I'm Yumie.  I live in the suburbs of Tokyo.  My favorite things are writing letters, scrapbooking, collecting used stamps and traveling.  Last December, I went to Singapore to meet my penpals.  This became a wonderful experience for me.  Best Wishes, Yumie"

I like these stamps quite a bit.  I've even used them myself!

Canada

July 19, 2016

I received this great card from Kim from Vancouver and it was a delight.  Not only was it sent by another Canadian, but she recommended a film to me that I haven't seen.  The funny thing is that I have seen an earlier film by the same director and loved it, so as soon as I can, I'll take her advice!

Kim wrote,

"Hello Helen!  Greetings to a fellow Canadian from Vancouver, BC!  I hope you're having a wonderful day!  My favourite Canadian movie is "Hard Core Logo" with Hugh Dillon and Callum Keith Rennie.  It's a fake documentary about a Canadian punk band (also fake) and I love it!  If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend!

All the best - Kim"

Here's the IMDb entry for Hard Core Logo.

The other interesting thing about this particular Postcrossing is that the card she sent me is from Squamish.  A couple of nights before I received this card, I had watched a film called Horns which was partially filmed in Squamish.  The coincidences were all very cool!

Located 5km south of Squamish, Shannon Falls is the third highest waterfall
(1,105ft/335m) in British Columbia.

Many of the Canadian postcards are pre-stamped so it was a bit of a treat to receive a "real" stamp on this one.  This is a wapiti or elk.

Thank you so much for the card Kim, it is always lovely to receive a postcard from "home"!

Germany - Actress in Black and White

July 19, 2016

Thomas sent this nice card of Marilyn Monroe from Germany and actually read my profile and replied to some of my questions in it. That was great! My last question is about the undelivered cards.  I wonder where they go.  Thomas has an answer for me!

He wrote,

"Best wishes from Germany: My favorite movies are Hangover (all 3 parts). I think they are soooo funny.  To answer the last question of your profile: Don't be sad, the cards have just decided to make a trip around the world and visit all the beautiful things that we are not able to see.  They enjoy li[f]e and perhaps they decide one day to do their job and go to the receiver.

All the best
Thomas"

A very nice picture of Marilyn

Some lovely views on these stamps.  I think they must have changed the stamps again!

Russia

July 9, 2016

This big card came to my mailbox recently.  It was sent by Nataliya from Russia with a friendly note on the back.

She wrote,
"Hello from Russia!  Hello from the glorious city of St. Petersburg.  My name is Nataliya.  I'm 35. The EVA FOUNTAIN is depicted on a postcard.  This fountain is located in Lower Park of Peterhof. Peterhof is a suburban imperial residence, the capital of fountains and a triumphal memorial in honour of Russia's return to the Baltic Sea at the beginning of the 18th century.

I invite you to visit our beautiful city.  Please, don't believe everything bad that is said about the RUSSIANS. The RUSSIANS are good people! I wish you love, health, peace!"

The Eve Fountain. 1726

An interesting grouping of stamps.  I rather like them.

Russia

July 2/3 2016

I wrote two dates above for a simple reason.  The sender did not write the registration number on the card, so I received the card on July 2nd, but registered it on July 3rd.  I had to ask Postcrossing to find the number for me.  Happily, they were able to do that and so I can bring you this card!

Marina sent this card and wrote a very nice note on the back.

She said,
"Hi!  My name is Marina. I am from Vologda, it is next to the northern capital of Russia - St. Petersburg.  Our city was founded in 1147, the name means 'Forest water'. Our city is rich in historical architectural monuments. I work in a school of arts teach children to draw. I love the movie 'Game of Thrones' based on the book of George Martins."

Czech Republic

July 2, 2016

Slávek sent this card from his village in the Czech Republic.  He wrote a friendly note on the back of the card.

He wrote,
"Hi, my name is Slávek and I live in a small village Brniste. I like to read books on II.World War.  I'm 43 years old and I have 2 daughters =).  I wish you a beautiful day and many nice postcards.  Partly cloudy 21℃       Slávek"

A nice sports related stamp!  Thanks :-)

Russia

July 2, 2016

This bright and cheerful card arrived in my mailbox from Russia recently.  It was sent by a 14 year old who does Postcrossing though school.

The postcrosser wrote,
"My name is Alona.  I am 14 years old.  I live in the northern Russian town.  I like Postcrossers club. It's called 'Compot'.  Happy Postcrossers! Best wishes Alona"

The first stamp looks like a variation of the Rapunzel story, but I don't really know.
