Germany

September 29, 2014

Andreas sent this card from Rostok, from the Baltic Sea in the north of Germany. He writes that Rostock is an important port city.  Every day a lot of ferries and freighters come there.  In summer, a lot of cruise liners come there too.  He writes that it is a beautiful place for living and for holidays.

His favourite movie of the last few years is a French one called "Intouchables", in German it is called "Ziemlich Beste Freunde". He says it is a very good movie, and I should check it out.

He sends me his best wishes.

Greetings from the Hanseatic city of Rostock
I love the stamp on the right.  I'm not sure what it commemorates.  I Googled the words, but only German articles came up.
Andreas, thanks for a great Postcrossing!

Hello Helen, I have come to your blog via Scriptor Senex's one.
As for the stamp, I can help:
It is to commemorate National Stamp Day ("Tag der Briefmarke") and shows a coach that used to run between Lindau, a city on Lake Constance, and Milan in northern Italy. The coach was called Lindau Messenger ("Lindauer Bote").

Ah! Thank you so much. I thought it was probably connected to the mail system somehow.

I appreciate you writing, and welcome to my blog!

I think it celebrates also one of the first international post service. As the messenger passed on his way Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein and Switzerland. All four country's released a special stamp on this issue.

Ah, thank you! This is wonderful! Thank you so much for stopping by and giving me more information.

I hope I might get a postcrossing with some of the other stamps too!
